Around these parts the pears are just coming into season. Ninety-five percent of all pears grown in the U.S. come from Washington and Oregon where warm, dry summer days, cool nights, and wet winters combine to produce excellent fruit. Here's a recipe that is sure to please the entire family. Remember to check for ripeness, press down gently on the stem end. When ready, it will give slightly. Don’t wait for the pear to feel soft all over, or your pear will be mushy.

Ingredients
Pie
1 (9 inch) whole grain pie crust
1/2 cup Fructevia or Steviva Brand Stevia Blend
1 cup sour cream
1/4 cup whole grain flour
1 egg, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 large pears - peeled, cored and sliced

Topping
2/3 cup whole grain flour
1/3 cup Fructevia or Steviva Brand Stevia Blend
5 tablespoons butter, melted
2/3 cup rolled oats

Instructions
Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Roll out the pastry and transfer it to a 9-inch pie plate. Trim any extra dough and crimp the edge.
Combine 1/2 cup Fructevia or Steviva Brand Stevia Blend, sour cream, 1/4 cup flour, egg, vanilla, and salt in a bowl until blended. Fold in the pears. Pour the mixture into the pie plate and bake the pie for 15 minutes.
While the pie is baking, prepare the topping: mix the 2/3 cup flour, 1/3 cup Fructevia or Steviva Brand Stevia Blend, melted butter, and rolled oats together in a bowl.
Remove the pie from the oven and sprinkle with the crumble topping. Return the pie to the oven and bake until the filling is set and the crust is brown, about 20 minutes more. Allow to cool and set before serving.

Why would you buy protein bars, if you knew it had almost the same calories, fat and sugar as many of the popular candy bars? If your goal is to get healthier, slimmer, or replace a meal after a 30 to 60 minute workout, a candy bar or anything like it is probably on your "not" list. Right?

Here is a great recipe without all the junk in it but still delivers plenty of protein and amazing flavor.

Ingredients:
3 1/2 cups quick oats
1 1/2 cups powdered non-fat milk
4 scoops sugar free chocolate or vanilla protein powder
1 cup
Fructevia, or Steviva Brand Stevia Blend or 1/8 teaspoon of Steviva Brand Stevia Powder
2 egg whites, beaten
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup unsweetened natural applesauce

Instructions:
Preheat oven to 325 and spray a baking sheet or 9x12 baking dish with non-stick spray. The 9x12 baking dish will yield thicker bars.
Mix oats, powdered milk, and protein powder in bowl and blend well.
In separate bowl, combine egg whites, water, applesauce, and the
Fructevia, Steviva Brand Stevia Blend or 1/8 teaspoon of Steviva Brand Stevia Powder and blend well.
Stir liquid mixture into dry ingredients until blended. The consistency will be thick and similar to cookie dough.
Spread batter onto pan and bake until edges are crisp and browned.

Delicious served as an accompaniment to poultry or pork, this spicy chutney recipe also makes a terrific appetizer spread when served over a block of cream cheese.

Ingredients:
2 (12 ounce) packages frozen, unsweetened cherries (or 3 cups dried unsweetened cherries)
1/3 cup Fructevia, Steviva Brand Stevia Blend (optional 1/32 tsp. Steviva Brand Stevia Powder and 1/3 cup of apple sauce)
1 tablespoon molasses
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1 large red onion, thinly sliced
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon salt
1-1/2 tablespoons freshly grated ginger
3/4 teaspoon mustard seed
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1 (4-inch) cinnamon stick

Instructions:
Place all the ingredients in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low. Simmer, uncovered, about 30 minutes to blend the flavors and to develop the chutney consistency. Frozen cherries may require an additional 10 minutes of cooking. Stir as needed during the cooking.

This recipe will keep for weeks in the refrigerator.

Serves: 8

Prep Time:<55>

Skill Level: Easy

INGREDIENTS:
2 1/2 pounds apples, peeled, cored, sliced
2 cups blackberries
1 cup Fructevia, Steviva Brand Stevia Blend or 1/8 teaspoon Steviva Brand Stevia Powder mixed with 1 cup of unsweetened apple sauce.
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 tablespoons whole grain flour
1 tablespoon butter, cut in small pieces
whole grain pie shell for two-crust 9-inch pie

PREPARATION:

  • Preheat oven to 375°.
  • Mix the apples and blackberries together in a large bowl.
  • In another bowl, combine the Fructevia, Steviva Brand Stevia Blend or Steviva Brand Stevia Powder applesauce blend, spices, and flour; gently mix into the fruit mixture. Line a 9-inch pie plate with bottom crust.
  • Spoon the fruit filling into the prepared crust, then dot with butter. Top with the remaining pie crust, leaving a slight overhang. Crimp the edges of the top and bottom crusts together, sealing the fruit into the shell.
  • Whisk the egg yolk and milk together, and brush this wash over the top crust.
  • With a sharp knife, make several slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  • Bake at 375° for 1 to 1 1/4 hours, or until the apples are tender. If crust seems to be browning too quickly, reduce the heat to 325 degrees.
